A mountain race at the Rossfeld:

This idea is not really new – already from 1958 was a stormy affair at the Rossfeld.
The energy crisis in 1973 put the final nail in the coffin of the Rossfeld race and many other mountain races.

Since a few years, at the last weekend in September, the Rossfeld race takes place.
The official name for it is “International Edelweiss Mountain Award Rossfeld Berchtesgaden”.

Initiator of this “new” Rossfeld race is Joachim Althammer.
Main focus is of course the journey back to the 50’s and 60’s of the past millenium.
This time travel is not only generated by the historical oldtimers – also the “dresscode” for the drivers, voluntary assistants and visitors add a lot to this amazing athmosphere.

This event has a very impressive background.
All the earnings and charitable donations will be always donated to facilities for handicapped people in the vicinity.
That reason siginificantly distinguishes the Rossfeld race from most other races: the earnings will be donated to people for improving their quality of life.

Due to this reason, it wasn’t very hard to regain Walter Röhrl as the ambassador of this event one more time.

Unfortunately, I only was able to visit the race on Sunday.

Besides the Rossfeld race the so-called “EdelweißClassic” takes place, too.
The EdelweissClassic is an oldtimer rallye where the main focus is also the donation of the earnings.
