Holidays in Croatia, 13. – 20.08.2016
Croatia – the third – and maybe last – holidays for 2016.
The only holidays which have been planned for this year.
The holidays in the Emirates and Bibione have emerged spontaneously.
My travelling reports are linked above.
Unfortunately we had to have the holidays in the main season as it’s not easy to find a suitable week for 8 persons.
Day 1: Arrival – Saturday, 13.08.2016
To drive as long as possible without traffic jam, we already started at 4:00AM.
Excepting a few small traffic obstructions we had no further interruptions until the Karavanke Tunnel to Slovenia.
Around 1hr in the traffic jam, we passed through the tunnel.
In the further course of the journey through Slovenia and to Croatia we also not had some big interruptions.
While getting closer to the toll station in Zagreb, we stucked in the traffic jam for a while.
The next jam emerged only a few kilometers later – but happily it was the last one.
We passed the last tunnel on the way to Zadar we got the first glance on the sea, so the final destination was pretty close.

Approx. 12hrs travelling – including traffic jams and breaks – we arrived the final destination.

Day 2: Day on the beach – Sunday, 14.08.
Well rested, we did our “bulk buying” for approx. 1,400 HRK (Kuna) which means around 200€.
Later the day we went down to the beach to relax.
dark blue sea and dark green pine trees
In the evening, an ice-cream was a must-have 😀

Day 3: Sea & BBQ – Monday, 15.08.
Of course also today the way down the beach was compulsory program.
In the late evening we had barbeque with self-marinated turkey meat and corn.

Day 4: Exploring – Tuesday, 16.08.
Today’s Tuesday was not so hot and we explored the village if something has changed or not.
View from the balcony onto the harbour
It came out quickly that no big changes took place in contrast to the last year.
For our way back to the house, we took another way to explore new, unknown areas.
Because of the stunning views onto the sea, the detour was it’s worth.

Day 5: Afternoon excursion to Zadar – Wednesday, 17.08.
Instead of beach and the sea, we decided to make an excursion in the afternoon.
But very late we came up to an agreement so we started not before 3:30PM to Zadar.
Over rough and smooth we jolted alongside the coast to Zadar.
After arriving we parked right at the harbour for only 6HRK which means aprpox. 1€ per hour.
As only 2 persons already have been to Zadar, I did the “tourist guide”.
Mainly we sauntered all together through the alleys.
Some time later it became dark so we went on the way to the “Sea organ of Zadar” as well as to the light show.
Below you can find both of my videos from 2014:

Finally, a wild Pickachu occured. 😛

Day 6: Relaxing & cocktails, – Thursday, 18.08.
Excepting of beach, sun and cocktails, no further events occured.
So there are no photos. 😉

Day 7: Vodice & Tribunj – Friday, 19.08.
In the night from Thursday to this day a thunderstorm rolled in and cooled down the air.
Correspondingly to this storm the morning was pretty cold.
As we already planned for last year to visit the nearby city Vodice we put this plan into practice on this day.
Sadly short after our arriving it started raining again.
Nevertheless we discovered the old town of Vodice.

The evening we spent in Tribunj again.
There I took some photos from the sunset onto the little island as I not took them before.

Day 8: Return journey – Saturday, 20.08.
The last day is always the most awful day:
Getting up early, no more sea, long journey in the blazing heat, upcoming workaday life,….
On the returning way – somewhere in Croatia
While the returning I always checked the current traffic situation.
We decided very quickly that we want to avoid this time the traffic focuses.
With the chosen alternative route (via Rijeka (HR) – Postojna (SLO) – Gorizia (IT) – Udine (IT)) we also needed around 12hrs – but less traffic jams.
Of course it rained again while we came closer back home.
