Ainringer swamp, 16.10.2016
The very sunny Sunday was perfect for taking a small hike through the Ainringer Moos (=swamp).
Quick Info
The peat cutting already started in the early 19th century.
The combustible peat has been delivered to the saline in Bad Reichenhall, the lime klin “Ebner” in Rott and the horseshoe factory in Hammerau.
It soon came out that this kind of peat is unprofitable to use it as combustible peat, so it was used as replacement for straw litter.
In 2003 they shut down the peat factory.
Despite this very nice Sunday weather barely people were seen in the swamp.
This was perfect to explore the swamp for further shots.
As soon as leaving the path the ground became muddy very quickly and gave way.
Unfortunately there were not too many photos in the day, because many parts of the swamp were already not lit by the sun.
Nevertheless, I captured some photos and scenes – partly only tentatively.
All the photos of the swamp hike are saved here.
View over the middle part of the swamp
shiny green moss in the dark forest
overgrown track of the swamp factory train which is still operation as museum railway
All information about the Ainringer swamp are available (in Germany only) on the website of the “Friends of the Ainringer swamp (NPO)”
After the two-hour hike – and some expeditions off the roads – shoes and trousers were in the appropriate condition. As soon as a nice weekend announces again, the search for new photos continues.
